the hot air out west buckling the jet stream out of western canada. that's supplying that cool flow of air and that's a pattern we're not expected to see change appreciably until about wednesday. then we'll be back in the cold again. let's check our forecast. first of all for tonight skies, clouds early, well, mostly cloudy let's say thereafter. calm winds. cool temperatures by the morning hours. low temperature 43 to 49 degrees. then for tuesday mostly cloudy with an isolated shower possible. high temperature between about 60 and 65. northwest winds expected. tomorrow night partly cloudy and cool by sunrise. 44 to 49-degree low temperatures. not too bad just yet and wednesday should be the warmest day of the week. fairly comfortable temperatures ranging between about 70 and 75. as winds turn southwesterly from 5 to 15 miles per hour. 7-day forecast promises that cold outbreak by the weekend. friday, saturday and probably sunday will have daytime highs mostly in the 50s. probably as you see there lower 50s for a day or two. but the bigger story may be

really cool in canada. you expect that this time of year because of the shortening days. that chilly air extends. because of this northward flood of moisture if that storm system moves in our direction. the air is also unstable so we've got to get enough vertical motion to get storms to mix in tonight. winds at the moment are southeast at 10. we have moderate values of molding with ragweed today. we sit right on the south end of this and what happens here sometimes over the weekend, these little disturbance come by here and pull some moisture from the south up here. so we may have a couple of intervals this weekend where it's kind of cloudy and you might see a shower or two. there are showers or thunderstorms in our southern suburbs. right now it's interesting. this cluster is blown up. but additional development may occur. you see the occasional lightning discharge. but this is the batch of storms that really has rained. and the main energy is back there and settling in our direction. there's even a tail of showers. we expect this to be coming at us and increase the show

plenty of cold air up there in canada as it's making it way down the central plains. some of that air will be effecting us over the next seven days but not thunderstorm. look at these tonight. we have fallen to 65 at the moment with dew points in the low 60s across the area. that produces a mild overnight period. winds have been off of lake michigan all day today and the water temperature is 68. so that's had a cooling effect around the lake front. those areas adjacent in the 60s. there's that cold air. watch it slowly through the animation. you can see it's moving across and settling over the chicago area that following tomorrow's very warm high temperature. then retreating allowing a bit of a warm up but more cool air is coming in over the weekend and the weekend beyond. the weekends both look chilly. the next one after this next one looks very chilly. this is a map of present watches and warnings and so forth. this green area up to our north, those are actually flood watch areas. this is the reason. area of showers and thunderstorms that's tracking through southern
